December 13 - 15 Christmas Dinner Rally at Pattishall.
Due to a limit on the number of vehicles that can park on the Hall carpark, preference will be given to Nene Valley members until the AGM. The menu should be out by then, and we expect the cost of the meal to be approx £26 per person. As we have had to pay a deposit to the Caterer we would like a deposit of £20 per person for the meal when booking, all deposits to be in by the AGM. Thankyou
Our Rally at Stoke Bruerne went well in the sunshine, and a mention that we were able to sit out in the evenings, something sadly lacking this year. A highlight was that we were able to arrange to go on the narrowboat cruise through the Canal tunnel, with a constant temperature of 56 degrees summer and winter, it was a relief from the heat. We were able to fill The Indian Chief, the narrowboat based at the Boat pub, a suitable return destination !!
This was followed by a new destination for the Group at Delapre Abbey in Northampton. After the water point was sorted at the little stone Gate Lodge, and the maintenance man brought two crowbars and a lump hammer so he could lift a drain cover for the elsan, it was on to better things. Members were able to roam about the extensive grounds and the lakeside. The flowers in the Walled Garden were a pleasure to see, followed by a coffee and refreshments in the Orangery. The House wasn't open until Sunday morning, but some booked to go on the tour. Once they were set up, life-size dinosaurs could be heard and seen moving, very good models for the children to enjoy, in a display that is now on until the beginning of September. Members said that they thought it was a pleasant site to find in the town, and we hope to visit again in the future, especially if the Model Engineers Club keep their promise to open their site again. A lot of grown gentlemen rediscovered their younger selves on Sunday morning, having rides behind the steam engines for a donation to a good cause, a great ending to the weekend.
